The testing process consist of a Physical Agility Exam, Written Exam, Oral Exam, Background Investigation, Medical Exam and a Psychological Exam.
Successful completion of all parts are required for employment. We do not accept lateral transfers and all applicants must go through the same testing process.

Some requirements for Police Officer are as follows:

  • ACT 120 Certified
  • Must have a valid PA operators license or obtain one upon being hired.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must not been convicted of any felony.
  • Must be of good moral character.

  • Preference points are given for Military Veterans.

  • Current base salaries as of 2015.
    1st year patrol officer base-$36,951
    4th year patrol officer base-$44,858

    15% of Medical benefits are paid by Employee which includes dependants. Highmark Community Blue. Eye Care, Dental, for the Employee and Dependants are paid by the City , Rx co-pay are $20 for generic and $40 for brand names. There are other co-pays and deductibles not listed here.

    Annual uniform allowance $500 11 paid holidays
    Longevity pay at 5-10-15 year increments 12 sick days a year with unlimited accumulation.
    Sick leave incentives for using less than 3 days a year Educational bonus (varies for Associate and Bachelor degrees)
    Paid vacation up to 28 days Four and two work schedule (work four 8 hour shifts and then off 2 days)
    Assignments include:
    Patrol, K9, Motor Unit, Bicycle, SERT (Special Emergency Response Team), CIT (Crisis Intervention Team), Detectives and Narcotics.
