Johnstown Police Department K9 Corps One dog, Tarzan, and his handler are assigned to our Bureau of Criminal Investigation and are trained strictly in BOMB and Explosive material detection. The remaining dogs and their handlers are assigned to the patrol division and are trained in apprehension and narcotics detection.

The K9 corps utilize 4 wheel drives and sedans that were constructed for K9. All handlers and their partners are trained on a continuous basis. The officers are also assigned to do demonstrations at public schools and events and do most any request for a demo. The K9 corps is headed by an officer in charge, Officer Mike Kanuch, who oversees the training and scheduling of extra assignments, such as demos.
